Democrats Willfully Abuse Low-income Children AGAIN

Posted by Valerie on April 3, 2009

Senator Jim DeMint offered an amendment to the budget, which would have accomplished the following:

  • Delayed the implementation of lead limits 6 months
  • Exempted thrift stores and resellers like used bookstores
  • Exempted the sale of books
  • Exempted children’s bikes
  • Allowed manufacturers not to re-test products made of 100% tested components
  • Prevented retroactive enforcement against demonstrably safe products already in the stream of commerce

The Senate voted on this sensible, merciful relief option yesterday. Here’s the roll call. 87.5% of Republicans voted in favor of the relief amendment while 93% of Democrats voted against it.

What political strategy underlies the Democrats’ overwhelming refusal to offer any relief to low-income children and their families? Does anyone know what they’re thinking?

What a shame that they can’t see how much wrong they are doing. I watched the video of Mr. Barton and he admitted on that video that they all knew how costly this law would be blanketing the entire children’s industries. It made me sick to my stomach to hear him say that. They knew. And didn’t do anything about it. Unfortunately, they still won’t do anything about it. The more I see and hear about CPSIA - the sicker I get. What gets me is that this was never presented to the American public and we had no say whatsoever until the 11th hour - less than one month before CPSIA became effective. I think the only thing that will change their mind now is a bolt of lightning striking them down and the voice of God booming from the sky.

Totally sick about this (and I counted only four democrats voted for it - that’s what is so sad about this - Barton says this isn’t a bipartisan issue, it needs to be a unified issue - grrrrr)
